For almost 60 years the Home Builders Association has held a Youth Design contest as part of the Original Connecticut Home Show. Starting in 1948, the Youth Design Contest gives students from all Connecticut high schools the opportunity to demonstrate their creative and technical skills, be recognized for their talents and win scholarships and awards.
The Home Builders Association of Hartford County sponsors the Youth Design Contest for student in grades 10 – 12 that are enrolled in design, or drafting courses in public and technical high schools across the state.
Student must include a scale model home with presentation drawings that meet specific criteria. This year’s criteria are to design a three bedroom home not to exceed 2,000 square feet of floor space and the students must include three National Association of Home Builders Model Green Building Guidelines.
The first place design will win a $1,000 cash prize and a $1,500 scholarship for students pursuing further educational degrees. In May, the winners, their parents and teachers are honored at a special luncheon hosted by the HBA of Hartford County.
